HORSE RACING |
---|
People have been betting on horse races for a long time, even before casinos and lotteries. Horse races used to be the only sport in England which it was legal to bet on. Horse races go back quite a few centuries, even into the times BCE. The modern era of horse racing began in England in the 17th century and remains a very popular sport even today – also for sports bets. We can list the sports betting exchange Betfair as an example, where on average about 1 million EUR are bet on horse races. Bookmakers like Bet365, William Hill and Ladbrokes have the most betting offers for horse races. Out of all the horse racing events that last a whole weekend, the Royal Ascot (June) and the Cheltenham Festival (March) stand out. Horse races are of two main types: without obstacles (flat race) and with obstacles (jump racing). These two types are further divided into different track lengths, the longest of which is over 4 km long. |

Bookmakers and exchanges offer several types of horse racing bets.
Bet on the winner
Which horse will place first, second or third?
The bet is composed of two parts, the investment is double – if we bet 2 EUR, we are actually betting 4 EUR. Partly on win and partly on place. For the win part, our horse must win, for the place part, the horse must end up in one of the top three places (or more, depending on the number of horses competing). In case our horse wins, we win both bets. In case our horse places in the top three places (1st, 2nd or 3rd place), we only win the second part of the bet – this is calculated by dividing the quote paid by 4 or 5 and multiplying it by our investment.
A bet where we bet on two horses and determine both of their places – 1st or 2nd place.
Similarly to the 2 PLACES bet, except we determine the first 3 places for three horses.
This is a bet in which the bookmakers offers a bet on a "duel" between two horses. Here we are betting on the winner of this duel.
There are a few other types of bets, the above however are the most often played. |
